Drumheller, Alberta is known for the dinosaurs. People come from all over the world to see the badlands and tour the Tyrrell Museum. During the winter months the town is pretty quiet as most people visit in the summer.

This year Drumheller built the World’s Largest Dinosaur; he is an 82 foot tall Tyrannosaurus Rex, which is 4 times larger than a real T-rex was. And this is the story of his first Christmas.

Tyrone was officially opened on Friday, October 13th, and he has been very busy greeting visitors and holding them in his mouth so they can take pictures of the Valley. He has also been spending a lot of time posing for the camera himself as it isn’t very often people see such a large dinosaur. Even most people who live in town have taken a trip up into Tyrone’s mouth. He has been very popular with everyone. The children love to climb on his toes and run underneath him. Adults ooooo and ahhhh and take video recordings. Tyrone is a very happy dinosaur indeed, with so much admiration and excitement over him.

But with all the people going to visit Tyrone, the little T-rex, Tess who lives beside the Water Park is feeling a little left out. She remembered when everyone who visited Drumheller used to stop and take her picture and when the children used to sit on her tail and toes and hug her legs. In fact Tess was just plain jealous. She wondered who’s idea it was to build such a monstrosity, what a ridiculous idea indeed! Imagine! An 80-foot T-rex!!!

Snow soon came and winter was settling in. The town was getting ready for Christmas. Shops were having sales and people were starting to put up trees and decorate their homes. Tyrone, not knowing what Christmas was, was sure that everyone was celebrating his arrival in Drumheller. He saw people shopping and gathering brightly colored packages. He heard people singing. “What a wonderful place to live”, he thought to himself. “These towns folk must really love me”.

Just to be sure he decided to talk to Tess about all the activity he saw.

“Tess,” he said, I see everyone must be getting ready for some big celebration in town”

“Yes” replied Tess, “ They do seem to be doing that”.

“Is it because of my arrival?” asked Tyrone hopefully.

Tess was about to answer and explain Christmas to Tyrone, but stopped herself at the last second. “Hmmm…” she thought to herself. “That big monstrosity thinks everything is about him!!! Well, I will show him a thing or two”.
